The words Silicone and Silicon are often wrongly used to describe substances used for implants. Silicon is a Silicone and element is a gel which contains silicon and which is used for implants. The most frequently used Silicone implant is Breast implant, though silicone implants can be used for various parts of our body both cosmetic and medical reasons.

Breast implants was first used in 1962 and is used in cosmetic purposes 80% of the time, and also for reconstruction after undergoing a surgery treating breast cancer. It is widely used in all over the world and statistics say that over two and half million women in Northern America alone have used breast implants.

Implants in breasts are standardized as instruments under Therapeutic Act (1989) and breasts implanted wuth silicone have been prescribed as dangerous products and are already appeared in cases related to liability of products. Studies tells us that breast implants will be “bioreactive, anti to the immune system, toxic and will cause inflammation in human body”. Being a foreign product, silicone causes devastating reactions in the human body and on numerous occasions if the silicone drops off, which could cause severe disorders in the body. Silicone also generates antibodies that deplete collagen, major parts in connective tissue. Once Silicone leaks into our body it is very tough to detect as the look of that area does not change. Once inside the body silicone it acts as a carcinogenic substance (cancer causing) and is known to damage the immune system, kills cells and produce silicosis. But if a person is injured because of implants they can claim compensation.
